A welcome with a personal touch

When Evelyn shared her review, she had been living in Australia for almost three months. She thanked the team who had supported her during that first stage, particularly her guides Natalia and Juan.

Natalia was her first guide. Evelyn highlights how warmly she welcomed them and the care she took in helping them with their arrival paperwork.

How to prepare for your first days in Australia

The welcome and paperwork Evelyn mentions belong to a stage that comes with plenty of questions. To prepare for your own arrival, you can use Nōmadas’ resources and work out what you need to organise before travelling.

  1. Arrange your welcome

The Welcome Session is an in-person or online meeting to help you find your bearings. Use it to ask about transport, accommodation and everyday life in the city. Confirm with your guide how to arrange it around your arrival date.

  2. Organise the first practical steps

Nōmadas’ arrival support includes help with opening a bank account and getting your first local phone number. Ask what you need to bring and what you can prepare ahead of time. Keep your accommodation address and school contact details handy, too.

  3. Find your community

Ask to join your city’s group and browse the activities calendar. A workshop or sports meet-up can be an easy way to start meeting people. Check the location, registration requirements and conditions for each activity.

Making room for a new routine

Settling in also means finding places to spend time outside class. The Nōmadas community offers workshops, sports activities and get-togethers with other people. You can choose something that interests you and fits your schedule, without planning your whole social life at once.

Another experience to explore

In a separate story, Jessica shares her time in Sydney and Adelaide: English, her first jobs and friendships that lasted beyond the trip. Her interview offers a closer look at the everyday life that begins when you arrive in Australia.
